The Long Beach Plumber Ask “Is Pex Right For You?”

Mr Fix It Plumbing – Long Beach Plumber Helps You Decided If Pex is Right For You

Cost effective and proven just right for home use … this is the reality for pex plumbing pipes. Created from a flexible plastic material, pex pipe is really more like tubing. It’s much cheaper than the hefty copper piping and less expensive. Pex is easy to put in and is proved to perform well in most any home. New homes built will often use pex plastic tubing over traditional metal pipes. If you have an older home and have plumbing repairs or plan to replace all of the plumbing in your house, pex piping is the best choice because of its cost efficiency, easy installation and functionality.
Pex Piping – Most Cost Efficient Alternative Around
When it comes to plumbing home improvement, supplies can be expensive whether you do the task yourself or employ a plumber. Nevertheless, with pex pipes, any repair job is more affordable. Think about this: if you use metal pipes, you have to purchase T-shaped fittings, forty five degree fittings, elbow joints and others so that you can get around corners and other obstructions when laying pipe for plumbing. Still, with the flexible, plastic pex pipe you don’t have to stress about those additional fittings. The pex piping bends around those obstructions with ease, thereby reducing your supplies cost and even labor costs because it takes less time to install.
Top Notch Performance
Pex pipe tubing beats other supplies like copper and galvanized pipe hands down. It’s great for piping that delivers your drinking water supply to the home because it is impervious to the various chemicals present in water supplies. On top of that, there is less chance of corrosive build-up in plastic pex pipe from minerals and chemicals, unlike galvanized or copper pipe. Upkeep is a breeze with pex as it is easier to fix and replace than metal piping which might require a special saw and possible welding to seal joints. Best of all, this versatile pipe is more immune to freezing temps than metal, incurring fewer instances of frozen pipes.
Pex for Indoor Use Only
Because pex pipe tubing is made out of flexible plastic, it isn’t at its best in outdoor applications. PVC or metal pipe is best in this situation. Pex is vulnerable to UV light so it should not be exposed to the sunlight because it could break down the plastic material. Plus, outdoor freezing temperatures could cause pex to be weak and damaged, even though it can withstand freezing temps with indoor plumbing use, mostly due to the warmth of the home’s heater. For that reason, pex flexible plastic tubing should only be used for interior plumbing.
Is Pex right for Califronia?
Here is something interesting happening here in Califronia. This is a quote from <a href=”http://www.plasticstoday.com/mpw/articles/plastics-polyethylene-california-pex-pipe-plans-0106″>California hangs on to PEX pipe plans, for now</a>.
An appeal filed on December 31, 2009 by the Plastic Pipe and Fittings Association (PPFA; Glen Ellyn, IL) means that, for now, cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) could still be used in California for pipe and tubing in plumbing, including drinking water pipes and tubing. But the fight in that state over the material’s plumbing use continues, as it has for more than five years.
PPFA appealed the ruling by a lower court on the question of the approval of cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) piping in the California Plumbing Code. The appeal keeps in place the regulations, which took effect August 1, 2009, that first approved the use of PEX in the Code. But in fact, PEX already was being chosen in about half of all new homes built in the state, according to Richard Church, executive director of PPFA, who spoke with MPW.
Keep in mind that pex pipe tubing is quite different from the plastic piping from the 1980s. Pex utilizes a completely different technology than those old plastic pipes used a couple of decades ago. Plus, it has been proven over and over; otherwise new home builders would not trust pex in their construction needs. For your next inside plumbing project or fix, check out pex pipe. You will be amazed by means of the price difference and quality.
